To Infinity and Beyond!

I used to have only one favourite sobriety chip—the one I’ve carried in my pocket from the very start of my journey. It’s my 24-hour chip. I bought it myself because the first meeting I went to didn’t do the chip thing. Honestly, I probably wouldn’t have said anything or left my seat to collect it, but that’s not who I am anymore. I’ve changed.

I loved the 24-hour chip. It had a subtle weight to it, and I could feel it every time I put my hand in my pocket. It was a gentle reminder not to live in the past or worry about the future, but just to be in the moment, in this 24 hours. It grounded me when my mind started to drift.

But now, I have two chips, both equally significant. The second one came on the night of my first face-to-face main share. I was sitting there, my head going blank, words tumbling out without much control. By the end, I felt like I’d only talked about my past—lots of experience, a bit of strength, and a tiny sprinkle of hope at the end. But before that nerve-wracking milestone in my recovery, some of my very good friends showed up to support me. It meant so much that they were there. While we were chatting outside the room, my friend gave me a gift—my new favourite chip. It was shiny and gold, with an infinity symbol right in the centre.

I instantly loved it. This chip wasn’t just a reminder for the present moment or for the day; it was a reminder for the future. Infinity is forever. And that’s how long I need to remember what I have now—how long I need to keep doing the work every day to be the best version of myself.

Infinity, as a concept, refers to something without limits or an end. It’s symbolized by the ∞ sign and used in fields like mathematics, physics, and philosophy. In math, infinity represents an unbounded quantity, something larger than any real number. The set of natural numbers (1, 2, 3, …) is one example—it goes on forever. In philosophy, infinity is often used to discuss the nature of the universe or the concept of eternity.

Infinity is a fascinating idea, helping us understand the boundless and immeasurable, both in the tangible and abstract worlds.

I can’t fully put into words in any tangible way how grateful I am for my new friends and how I feel now—hopeful for the future and living a life I can manage. This new chip will be with me every day, To Infinity and Beyond!

Infinite

The cool weight of yesterday's promise,
a 24-hour coin, smooth and worn,
nestled in the hollow of my palm,
a quiet mantra against the clamour of what was,
the phantom ache of what might be.
Just this breath, this sunrise, this single, fleeting day.

But then, a shimmer, a golden echo,
a circle unbroken, a symbol whispered on the wind—
infinity.
Not just the ticking clock of now,
but the boundless expanse of what could be,
a future unfurling like an endless scroll.

The first chip, a grounding stone,
a tether to the present's fragile peace.
The second, a star, a beacon in the vast unknown,
a whispered promise of forever's grace.

One for the day, a quiet battle won,
the other for the endless war within,
a reminder etched in metal,
that the journey stretches beyond the horizon,
that healing is not a destination,
but an infinite, unfolding path.

Two coins, two truths,
one for the moment, one for eternity,
clinking softly in the silence,
a symphony of hope,
a testament to change,
a future I can finally touch,
stretching out,
limitless,
like the infinity I now carry,
close to my heart,
forever,
Infinitely.....
